Everyone in Peak's family climbs mountains. Unfortunately, since his parents' divorce Peak lives in a city without any mountains so he climbs buildings instead. When he is caught doing just that he faces a long term in juvenile detention unless he leaves the country entirely and goes with his dad, whom he has not seen in years. Peak's dad takes him to the base of Mount Everest and reveals that he wants to get Peak to the summit, setting a world record for the youngest climber ever to summit. Peak faces many obstacles in his attempt to climb Everest including another possible contender for the record and the Chinese government. But the biggest challenge is the toll that Everest takes on everyone who tries to climb it.
