Dread Locks by Neal Shusterman

Parker has always been given so much that he is bored with everything he has. But Parker's life gets more exciting when Tara moves in next door. Tara is beautiful and mysterious and seems unafraid of anything. She always wears sunglasses and has curly hair that seems to move all on its own. Immediately she becomes one of the most popular girls in school but she has a special relationship with Parker. Tara forms new friendships with one student after another, working her way through the school. But Parker notices that after Tara has befriended someone he or she changes in many ways. Most strangely, Tara's friends begin drinking gallons of milk and eating dirt. Obviously, there is more to Tara than meets the eye and Parker needs to find out what that may be...
