One For the Murphys by Lynda Hunt

After an awful fight with her mom's boyfriend Carley has ended up in foster care while her mother recovers.  Carley's life has been difficult even before this latest fight and betrayal so it's hard for her to believe that the Murphys could possibly be as nice as they seem.  For the first time in her life she has new clothes, regular meals and parents who are around and who care about her.  Carley even makes a new friend at school and begins to feel like she belongs somewhere for the first time ever.  When her mom heals enough, she lets Carley know that she wants to start their family again but Carley's not sure she wants to leave the Murphys.  Like Carley, I waited for the shoe to drop in the Murphy household because the mom, in particular, was too good to be true.  But that didn't stop me from really liking this book.  Carley's defenses were perfectly realistic and the ending, while not really what I wanted, was also a perfect depiction of real life.
