Ungifted by Gordon Korman

Donovan is the boy who is always in trouble, the one who has the best ideas for pranks.  But he didn't plan to destroy the school's gym with a statue of Atlas and he knows that if the superintendent finds out it was him, he'll be in more trouble than he wants to think about.  So when he gets an invitation to transfer to the school for gifted students, Donovan jumps on it even though he is as ungifted as they come.  He plans to coast along at the Academy of Scholastic Distinction for as long as possible but he doesn't expect to actually fit in at his new school.  His new classmates are equally surprised because they know that Donovan doesn't excel at anything, but he might be exactly what they needed. Like most Korman books this is not deep, but it is fun and a good choice for middle schoolers.
